Here and There -

where I am, what I'm doing and where I seem to be headed...

Hello! Welcome to "Here and There" all the latest happenings in the world of ffilmar. Most of it deals with updates on current writing and projects. It includes important milestones and non-writing-related facts and events and experiences that may or may not make their way into the works of ffilmar. I write alot of email in the day and from time-to-time include notes to friends about my writing, process of writing or ideas and analysis of what I do on the electronic page. Please feel free to read on. I believe it important to share the motivation and ideas and feelings that go into a story. Comments and discussionwith writers and fans are always welcome, too. Feel free to contact me at info.ffilmar.org
March 2005:
  • A Star for Bailer will be appearing in Sensations Magazine Issue 38, Spring 2005 General Theme Issue and Twenty/Twenty will be published in Sensations Magazine Issue 39, Summer 2005 "Vacation" Issue.

May 2005:
  • Finished Light Boy. I am now polishing and fact-checking. This was tought one for me to complete - over two years. I discuss this in "production Notes" a little. I am pleased with 99% of the work and don't see any re-writes coming. I need one day of online fact-checking and maybe a couple weeks minor re-writing and it should be done. Then to a proofer for punctuation and off to copyright.
July 2005
  • Light Boy off to copyright.
  • Began plotting and sample-writing for my next story - no tentative title. It is a crime-drama.
  • Finishing Viva Las Vostok. Expect to send it off to copyright soon.
July 2005:
  • I have started writing a story I am loosly calling Hard Life which is about a small team of hackers who make a living intercepting funds transferred in criminal activities. I have sketched out my voice for this short-story and have begun playing at plot.
September 2005:
  • I have begun writing a short-story with the tentative name of "Goose Egg". I am a male goose in a flock of geese living my life. I am not a simple being, but a smart bird that cares about sounds, my family and the hundred-and-one shades-of-variety of lawn grass that I so love. Think "Animal Farm" without the edgy politics or anthropormorphic bent. They ain't dumb, either. But they are all very good geese.
December 2005:
  • Well, I was recently layed off from my 9-5 so i have some time to focus on what I really want to do with my time. Yes, I have a resume out there for the tech job but wouldn't it be nice to write professionally.
August 2006 (!):
  • Well, the summer has been...interesting. I never worked so hard finding work only to have nothing come my way. Yes, I was looking into career changes but kept the old "tech" search alive through monster et. al. No joy, though. I finally did find a new job - as a high school chemistry teacher. I was a chem professor years ago so this is a returnto something I so loved. I haven't written a thing, though. I had begun laying out a novel tentively called "Hard Life" and got most of the background research and character development done by, oh, May. I even worked out most of the plot but could not get the whole novel into my head. I like to write it out, as it were, in my mind before I actually begin typing. I can better see the connections and understand how the story unfolds.

Well, even though I am deep in lesson plans and a few other changes in my life I am beginning to write "Hard Life". No idea if it will be a short story, a long short story, a novella or a novel. We'll have to see.

March 2007
  • This year of teaching has been tough. Lots o' work. Most of my writing time has gont to lesson planning and reports and stuff for my education classes. I'm not swamped or anything. I just don't have free time to write. I recently finished my portfolio and my classes are done in MAY so maybe I can write now. I have been working on "Hard Life" as I can. I have the whole story in my head and a detailed outline and short pieces of dialog and action. Maybe this year...
July 2007
  • I'm back at writing "Hard Life". I can't relate any of the details of the story lets just say I once again have to pretend to be someone I'm not.
  • I'm now on Wattpad. I came across Wattpad looking for eBook readers for my blackberry. I have three stories up:

    Twenty-Twenty
    Moonshifter
    A Star for Bailer

More as I get to them.

Aug 2009
  • yes, its been a long time. My writing has been in the classroom. Emails, worksheets, portfolios. I haven't felt like writing fiction. I've still been still working on Hard Life but not up to speed. Things in my life have not been settled or happy. This summer things came together. I first finished Viva Los Vostok. Then, when looking over a breakup self-help book I had a great idea for a quirky short short story. that will be copywritten soon.
